*Sending on behalf of our ITS Desktop Support Team*
Dear Faculty & Staff,
As the spring semester comes to a close and summer begins, we want to
remind everyone that *all campus owned, Windows based, computer's must be
upgraded to Windows 11 by October* *2025. *A high percentage of campus
computers have already been upgraded but several hundred still remain.
For those that still need to be upgraded many will be receiving new
hardware; for others, it will mean upgrading their existing systems. *Most
of these upgrades will need to be completed over the summer*, so we ask for
your cooperation in preparing ahead of time.
*How do I find out what version of Windows I'm running?*
Click on Search and type* winver,* then hit enter*, it will display your
operating system version.*

If you are *NOT currently running Windows 11*, please take the following
steps:
1.
*Back up your data*
Ensure that all your work and personal data is safely backed up. *ITS
recommends using Google Drive* to store school-related data. If you need
help backing up to Google Drive or another location, please contact the
Helpdesk at *x4433*, and a technician will assist you.
2.
*Contact the Helpdesk if you haven’t already been scheduled for an
upgrade*
If you haven’t heard from the Desktop Support team, please email
*helpdesk at plattsburgh.edu* with the following information:
-
Confirmation that your data is backed up
-
A list of any software you use beyond the standard setup (e.g.,
Microsoft Office, web browsers)
-
A preferred time frame for your upgrade (we’ll do our best to
accommodate)
*Please note:* Due to the high volume of devices needing upgrades, ITS will
not be able to postpone this work until the fall. If we do not hear from
you, there's a strong possibility your system will be upgraded over the
summer *without your data or non-standard software*.
To avoid any disruption, *make sure your data is backed up before leaving
campus* and contact the Helpdesk to coordinate your upgrade.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation as we complete this time
sensitive campus wide upgrade.
