Dear Campus Community,
Four students were reported today as testing positive for COVID-19. The
students are isolating and following health and safety directions.
Over the past 11 days, the college community has recorded 29 total cases.
Additionally, two students are in precautionary isolation having tested
negative with rapid tests but awaiting back-up PCR test results.
*Quarantine and Recovery*
Through contact tracing by the county health department, 117 students are
in quarantine (80 on-campus and 37 off-campus).
Quarantine decisions by the health department are based on contact tracing
and an assessment of potential exposure to help prevent possible viral
spread. Details on isolation, quarantine and related topics are online at
*plattsburgh.edu/covid-19* <http://plattsburgh.edu/covid-19>.
Students will also be leaving isolation and quarantine as they recover or
risk times expire. One in our current total of cases has recovered and left
isolation.
*Prevention and Testing*
Our continuing response connects prevention and the Cardinal Pledge with
robust testing, isolation and quarantine as warranted. It takes all of us
to succeed.
Earlier today, I participated in an open media session with Clinton County
public health officials and other leaders. As we monitor our campus cases
and capacity every day, we are working in concert with multiple agencies.
These partners are supportive of our approaches.
Pooled surveillance test samples from this week are at SUNY Upstate Medical
University. We will share those results when they are in. Testing will
continue next week.
We respect the privacy of students in isolation and quarantine and will
support them. If you are aware, please also respect their privacy.
Faculty and staff are supporting students as quarantine buddies, checking
in, providing a connection and meeting needs they may have. If you would
like to assist in this way, please contact Dr. Michele Carpentier at
