Colleagues,
Over the past few months, we've fielded questions from departments and
individual faculty as to how they can help further support our success
retaining students. As you are all aware, with *Plattsburgh Next*,
recruitment and retention of students are critical goals. I know that many
of you already have strategies and approaches that you are invested in and
continue to practice. Thank you!
Some questions have come up about Cardinal Star. What happens when you
raise a particular flag? Why don't you hear back? When you raise a flag
for a behavioral matter or a mental health concern, the issue is sent
immediately to a Care Committee on campus. These individuals assess what
has been reported and respond based on the professional expertise in the
room. No follow-up is provided to those who raise these flags as the
response from the Care Committee is considered a confidential matter at
this point. When Academic flags are raised, the Advisor is alerted.
Advisors are encouraged to upload notes that reflect their response to such
alerts, but this is not required. Just very helpful. (I've pasted in some
links from JoAnn Gleeson-Kreig on Cardinal Start that have been shared
previously, but might be helpful to some faculty/staff now.)
In response to the questions I've received about retention "tips," I worked
with my team and also members of our Success Consortium (which includes
quite a few faculty members) to compile the attached list

of Retention Ideas focused primarily on faculty.
I'm sharing all of this information now in hopes that it both inspires and
supports your continued good retention work.
best,
Anne
