[Academic-Affairs] Update to Academic Affairs on students and COVID increase

Colleagues,

A message went out to the student listserv yesterday cautioning students
about an increase in student COVID cases on campus. Nothing had been
shared with me or, obviously, with all of Academic Affairs, so I followed
up for more details with Cori Jackson.

She told me that the Health Center had sent a message out because they have
observed that students are getting careless about COVID--coming into the
Health Center for a sprained ankle *and* sniffles, but not testing for
COVID, when they actually do test positive (in some cases). The note was
intended to encourage more caution, more testing, and more masking, when
appropriate, among our students.

Cori told me that the increase in student positives is actually still quite
small.

I wanted to make sure I passed on this information to our AA faculty and
professionals, in case you do have a student in your office hours or
meeting with you for support who has respiratory symptoms, but has not
tested and is not thinking of the risk of potentially further spreading the
virus.

I hope those of you who are on campus travel safely home today.

Have a great weekend,

Anne
