Colleagues,
In the interests of time, I am sending this message to our teaching faculty
mailing list, though this message may not pertain to you or any of your
current students.
Earlier this week, a decision was made to lock 17 students out of their
technology access to campus programs (e-mail, Moodle, etc.) because these
students were non-compliant with their requirement to test weekly. This is
not an ideal time to take this action in terms of coursework that may be
due over the holiday break, but the college also has to balance a serious
obligation to protect the health and safety of our larger community.
Students who are not vaccinated are required to test. Each of these
students was reminded repeatedly of their requirement to test, and multiple
attempts at outreach were made before this action was taken.
The students impacted have been given clear information on how to access
and drop off a COVID test--no extensive time or any cost involved.
If one of your students contacts you reporting that they cannot access
technology, you could share with them the following:
1.) They can provide proof of their testing to healthcenter at plattsburgh.edu.
They could also share pertinent information to this email, such as having
had COVID during the last 90 days and so are not required to test.
2.) They may pick up or drop off a COVID test at the Health Center.
2.) Michele Carpentier has offered her cell phone number for students who
want to communicate with someone immediately: 518-559-5933.
Faculty have no responsibility to involve themselves further in resolving
this technology matter for students who contact them.
Thank you, and I hope each of you has a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Anne
