Colleagues,
As you are likely aware, to meet SUNY requirements, our students are being
tested prior to their departure from campus for Thanksgiving and the
remainder of our academic semester.
When negative COVID test results come back to the Health Center, they
receive a notification with this language: "If you are able to continue
your studies remotely, we encourage you to make arrangements to head home
for the remainder of fall semester."
I am sending this note to make sure you are aware of the communication
students are receiving from the health center.
Given the recent uptick in infections on our campus and in the larger
Clinton County community, it is in everyone's best interest to have
students who have tested negative and have no further obligations for
physical presence on campus to leave campus. As a campus and as a state
system of higher education, the collective goal is to reduce the chances of
students bringing infections back to their home communities and family
members who may be at risk.
I can predict that students who receive this message may be in touch with
faculty who are still requiring some face-to-face instruction. I would
only ask that faculty try to be as flexible as they are able to be given
the rising infection rates and the overall stressors of this semester for
all of us.
Thank you.
