Dear Cardinals,

Halloween offers an opportunity for dressing up, fun and socializing. Some
Cardinals choose to drink alcohol as part of this experience, you can
prevent harm related to alcohol use for yourself and others by:

🎃 Planning ahead
🎃 Making mindful decisions around alcohol use
🎃 Setting limits around alcohol use
🎃 Eliminating risks where possible

There are many ways that you can reduce your risk if you choose to drink.
The more strategies you use, the more likely you are to prevent harm
related to drinking, such as alcohol overdose, injury, memory loss, harm to
self and others, hangovers and legal issues, as drinking is illegal for
those who are under the age of 21.

*Here are some tips on how to have a good time, and staying safe while
doing so*:

🚦 Know your limits and stick to them: Determine how much alcohol you can
comfortably handle and stay within those limits.

👹 Pace yourself: Don't rush your drinks and allow time between drinks to
slow down alcohol absorption.

🥤 Alternate with water: Stay hydrated by drinking water or other
non-alcoholic beverages between alcoholic drinks.

🍔 Eat before and during drinking: Food slows down alcohol absorption into
the bloodstream, reducing the effects of alcohol.

🔢 Be mindful of your alcohol intake: Pay attention to how alcohol is
making you feel and stop drinking when you feel the effects.

🧛 Count your drinks: Keep track of how many drinks you've had to stay
within your limits.

🍶 Don't let others top up your glass: Be mindful of your own consumption
and avoid letting others pressure you into drinking more than you want.

🚕 Plan for a safe ride home: Have a designated driver, use public
transportation, or call a ride-sharing service if you plan on drinking.

🙅 Know when to say no: It's okay to refuse alcohol if you don't feel
comfortable or want to drink.

Remember that your well being and safety starts with you!
