*The Institute for Ethics in Public Life invites you to join us for
"**Malthus,
Erlich, and the Ethics of Carrying-Capacity Models of Human Population
Growth**" with special guest Distinguished Professor Emeritus Mark Cohen on
Wednesday, April 15, at 3:30pm in-person and on Zoom.*
Abstract from Dr. Cohen: The late Paul Erlich’s book, *The Population Bomb*,
represents an extreme application of the Malthusian model which suggested
that growing human population would inevitably hit against the carrying
capacity or finite limit of world food supply. The result would be the end,
by starvation and turmoil, of the human species. But not only was Erlich
overly pessimistic, he and Malthus were inherently wrong about the
application of the carrying-capacity model to human population history.
