represents an extreme application of the Malthusian model which
suggested that growing human population would inevitably hit against the
carrying capacity or finite limit of world food supply. The result
would be the end, by starvation and turmoil, of the human species. But
not only was Erlich overly pessimistic, he and Malthus were inherently
wrong about the application of the carrying-capacity model to human
population history.<br> <br>Dr. Mark Cohen is Distinguished Professor
Emeritus at SUNY Plattsburgh. He joined the faculty of SUNY Plattsburgh
in 1971, and was promoted to SUNY Distinguished Professor in 2004.
During his time at SUNY Plattsburgh he earned numerous honors
and recognition for his scholarship, teaching and
service to the campus including the rank of Distinguished Teaching
Professor, the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, the
Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship,
and the Phi Eta Sigma Outstanding Professor Teaching Award. He also
earned a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Fulbright Lectureship. He is the
