FERPA Statement of Understanding for Student Employees/TAs

*NOTICE TO SUNY PLATTSBURGH EMPLOYEES:*

All students employed or assigned by SUNY Plattsburgh as a teaching
assistant, graduate assistant, or in another capacity such as work-study or
temporary-service employee that may require access to records which contain
identifiable information about former or currently enrolled students, the
disclosure of which is prohibited by the Family Education Rights and
Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), are required to read SUNY
Plattsburgh’s FERPA compliance policy available online and required to sign
the *FERPA Statement of Understanding Form for Student Employment

 Many students acknowledged the *Statement of Understanding* on some
college registration forms that have been revised to address this issue.
In this case, a duplicate form is not required.



All supervisors are responsible for informing their students of this form
and FERPA, obtaining a signed form for each student, and retaining the
form(s) for three years after the semester in which the form is signed. The
Registrar's Office does not need a copy of the signed form.
