It is a pleasure to invite you, on behalf of Dr. Christopher Kirkey, to
join us for the “Professional Research and Development Lunchtime
Presentation Series” featuring Dr. Christina Keppie, Director of the Center
for Canadian-American Studies, at Western Washington University.
TALK TITLE: Celebrating an Acadian “Civil Society.”
DATE/TIME: Thursday, March 2, 2023 at noon
LOCATION: The Center for the Study of Canada, SUNY Plattsburgh 133 Court
Street
OVERVIEW: Held every five years since 1994, the World Acadian Congress
(*Congrès
mondial acadien*, or CMA) is an international gathering of Acadian culture.
Its mission is to fortify the ties among Acadian communities around the
world. We’ll examine some of the challenges faced by Acadians to accomplish
this task and look at a small qualitative analysis illustrating the
importance / values the CMA brings to participants.
NOTE: Lunch will be provided. Your kind RSVP by Thursday, February 23rd to
help us confirm catering needs would be appreciated.
