Dear Cardinals,
We are excited to see you all come back to campus for Spring 2026.
Forecasts indicate hazardous travel conditions, including snow, ice, and
high winds, as well as transportation disruptions that are already
affecting travel across the region. Please exercise caution and follow
guidance from the SUNY Plattsburgh campus <https://www.plattsburgh.edu/>
and the National Weather Service <https://www.weather.gov/> before you decide
to travel or spend time outside.
Please follow safety guidelines and remember these* k*ey safety tips for
extreme cold:
Dress in Layers: Wear at least three layers: a base layer (wicking),
insulating layer (fleece/wool), and a wind/water-resistant outer shell.
Stay Dry: Wet clothing removes body heat fast. If you get wet, change
immediately.
*Recognize and Treat Hypothermia*: Symptoms include intense shivering,
slurred speech, confusion, and exhaustion. If suspected, move to a warm
area, remove wet clothing, and warm the chest, neck, and groin first.
*Prevent Frostbite*: Watch for signs of frostbite, which include numb,
white, or pale skin on extremities (fingers, toes, ears, nose). Do not rub
or massage affected areas, as this can cause more damage.
Indoor Safety: Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from flammable
materials and never leave them unattended.
Hydration and Nutrition: Drink warm, non-alcoholic liquids to maintain body
temperature.
In case of an emergency, remember to immediately call 911. Remember that
your safety and well being starts with you.
