[Important Information for Students] Review Your Fall 2023 Health Insurance Options

As of fall 2023, health insurance will no longer be mandatory for most
students attending SUNY Plattsburgh, and the university will no longer
offer a health insurance plan.  Health insurance will still be mandatory
for intercollegiate athletes and international students.


Students currently enrolled in the SUNY Plattsburgh student health
insurance plan are covered through August 14, 2023.  We highly recommend
that all students have health insurance.  Unexpected expenses due to an
illness or injury can create serious financial difficulties and jeopardize
your studies.


Here are several avenues for obtaining health insurance:

   Health Insurance Navigators: Health insurance navigators know all the
   insurance application rules and are an excellent resource; we strongly
   suggest working with a health insurance navigator.  Students who reside in
   New York State (NYS), including the New York City metropolitan area, can
   schedule appointments with a health insurance navigator through the
   Adirondack Health Institute’s EASE (Enrollment Assistance Services and
   Education) program.  Request an appointment online

   Online Resources: NYS residents can also find information and apply for
   insurance through the NYS Official Health Plan Marketplace
   <https://nystateofhealth.ny.gov/>, and non-residents can find
   information through the federal insurance marketplace.

   Parents: Most NYS plans allow dependents to stay on their parents’
   insurance until age 26.  You may be able to enroll in a parent’s health
   plan.

   Employers: You may be able to obtain insurance through your employer.

enroll in a new insurance plan before returning to campus for the fall
