Dear SUNY Plattsburgh Student:

SUNY Plattsburgh is committed to the health and safety of our campus
community. In an effort to monitor for the presence of SARS-COV-2 (COVID
19) in our student population, the college will begin conducting pool
testing on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. Pool testing will allow us to
quickly identify and address potential outbreaks of COVID 19 within our
campus community.

The first round of pool testing will include all residential students,
approximately 1,600 students. The test is free for students. Testing will
be conducted daily from Wednesday, September 2, 2020 through Friday,
September 4, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the
Algonquin Dining Hall.

*Students identified for pool testing will receive an email from Steve
Matthews, Director of Campus Housing and Community Living with the subject
line: Urgent Pool Testing Information. *This message will indicate a
specific appointment time and detailed instructions to prepare for the
test. All students selected for the pool test are expected to participate
as a member of our Plattsburgh Community. Due to the numbers of students
being tested, appointment times cannot be adjusted. Faculty have been
notified that the testing protocol may interfere with students’ class
attendance.

The pool test protocol and materials are provided by SUNY Upstate Medical
University. It involves a saliva-testing method, rather than the insertion
of a swab into an individual’s nose. Students will administer the test
themselves by swabbing the inside of their mouth for 10 to 15 seconds and
providing the saliva sample to medical personnel. Again, there is no fee
for the test. It is free for SUNY Plattsburgh students.

Thank you for your ongoing efforts to keep our campus community safe and
healthy. Please remain vigilant, abide by the *Cardinal Pledge* and always
comply with the SUNY Plattsburgh Social Distancing and Face Covering Policy

and

 *Cardinal Pledge*

*I will wear a mask, practice social distancing, wash my hands, avoid large
social gatherings/parties, stay home when sick and inform the Health
Center.*
