Campus Building Heating & Cooling Update
Dear Campus Community,
Heating Update
Please be advised that beginning Monday, May 18, the Central Heating Plant
will shut down the High-Temperature Hot Water (HTHW) generators to perform
critical maintenance on the campus heating system throughout the summer. As
a result, there will be no heating available on campus starting May 18.
We encourage you to plan accordingly, particularly in anticipation of any
cooler temperatures during this period.
Cooling Update
As we move into the spring season and begin to experience warmer
temperatures, we would like to provide an update on the process required to
bring campus cooling systems online.
Activating these systems involves several important steps, including:
-
Preparing each building’s cooling infrastructure
-
Cleaning and sanitizing cooling towers
-
Conducting water sampling to comply with health and safety regulations
These regulated procedures must be completed before systems can be safely
and effectively operated.
Building Cooling Status

* Water must circulate for 48 hours prior to enabling the chiller. Outside
air temperatures must remain above approximately 60 degrees during that
period. Starting the system prematurely can cause operational issues with
the chiller and refrigerant systems.
We appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we await stable,
warmer temperatures to fully activate campus cooling systems.
Best,
Facilities, Maintenance and Operations
