I am pleased to announce that Dr. Jason Lee has accepted the position of
Interim Dean of the School of Business and Economics, effective September
1, 2026.
This appointment allows for a thoughtful and extended transition period
with Dean Brian Neureuther, who has decided to return to the faculty to
focus on teaching and research after many successful years of leadership.
During Dean Neureuther’s tenure, the School of Business and Economics
earned AACSB re-accreditation, launched an executive management training
program in partnership with local industries, strengthened engagement with
regional businesses and business leaders, and experienced significant
enrollment growth through new, labor-market-ready programs in online and
in-person modalities.
Dr. Lee currently serves as Chair of the Department of Accounting. Plans
for the Dept. of Accounting chairship and a Sept 1, 2026 transition for
this role, will take place over the coming months. Dr. Lee has an
outstanding record of scholarship, teaching, and institutional service. He
holds the rank of Distinguished Teaching Professor and is a recipient of
the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (2011).
Professionally, he is a New York–licensed CPA and holds the Certified
Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Financial Manager (CFM), and
Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credentials, and he received a Distinguished
Performance Award from the Institute of Certified Management Accountants in
2005. Over his 19 years at SUNY Plattsburgh, he established the SBE’s first
Assurance of Learning (AoL) system and led AoL efforts for seven years
(2006–2013), earning commendation from the AACSB maintenance review team.
He also played a central role in launching the online BS in Accounting
program in 2017, developed the combined BS Accounting/MS Data Analytics
pathway in 2019, and spearheaded the newly approved Online MS in Accounting
program.
Shared governance has been respected through consultation with SBE
Department Chairs, and the Faculty-Senate Chair, both regarding this
interim appointment and the planned timeline for a national search for a
permanent Dean.
The School of Business and Economics is scheduled for AACSB
re-accreditation in the 2027–2028 academic year, with an anticipated site
visit in Spring 2028. We intend to launch a national search in late summer
or early fall 2027, conduct the search during the 2027–2028 academic year,
and appoint a permanent Dean in late spring or summer 2028.
On behalf of the Provost’s Cabinet and SUNY Plattsburgh, I extend my
sincere thanks to Dr. Neureuther for his leadership and collegial approach
to this important transition. We welcome Dr. Lee with great enthusiasm and
confidence, knowing our broader campus community will support Dr. Lee in
his future role.
