Dear Campus Community,

Supporting the well-being of every member of our community is essential to
the success of SUNY Plattsburgh. The State University of New York has
developed an important new resource that can help us recognize and respond
when someone may be in need of support.

I encourage all faculty, staff, and students to take part in the systemwide
online Suicide Prevention Training Module, created in collaboration with
the Columbia Lighthouse Project and the University at Albany’s Middle Earth
Peer Assistance Program. This 30-minute training offers practical tools to
help us look out for one another and foster a culture of care.

on the training, upcoming wellness initiatives, and additional resources
available.

Dear Presidents,



As part of SUNY’s continued commitment to promoting campus well-being, we
are pleased to share a systemwide online Suicide Prevention Training Module
created by our Office of Health and Hospital Affairs in collaboration with
the Columbia Lighthouse Project and students from the University at
Albany’s Middle Earth Peer Assistance Program.



This 30-minute training can help equip faculty, staff, and students with
tools to recognize warning signs, respond with care, ask questions, and
connect individuals to support. We encourage you to promote this training
for faculty, staff, and students across your campus.

We are committed to supporting your wellness efforts on campus and remind
you that there are mental health first aid grants available to support
certification and peer training. Additionally, today SUNY System kicked off
a wellness webinar series last week and we hope members of your team can
participate. Lastly, attached is an updated Suicide Postvention Guide that
was developed with the Office of Mental Health’s Suicide Prevention Center
of New York State. It is a useful resource that can help a campus prepare
to respond to a death by suicide.



Together, we can all make a powerful difference and continue building a
culture of wellness and mental health support in our SUNY System. If you
