September is* Emergency Preparedness Month, *a nationwide effort to
encourage everyone to be ready before emergencies happen. Our goal for the
campus community is to help students, faculty, and staff build a culture of
preparedness by having an emergency plan, keeping an emergency supply kit,
and knowing how to take action –including how to respond if someone is
experiencing an overdose.

*The Student Health & Counseling Center and the Office of Emergency
Management *care deeply for the health and well-being of SUNY Plattsburgh’s
students, faculty and staff. We recognize that there are Cardinals who are
impacted by the unprecedented opioid and overdose epidemic in our country
and New York State (NYS). We also recognize the growing danger of fentanyl
and xylazine in drugs such as cocaine, MDMA/ecstasy/Molly and counterfeit
pills.

Narcan can reverse the effects of a drug overdose from fentanyl, heroin and
prescription opioids, and has saved countless lives. The Alliance for
Positive Health and the Student Health and Counseling Center are sponsoring
a free Narcan Training Class on September 20th from 11am. to 12 pm. at the
Cardinal Lounge at the ACC. This training is open to students, faculty and
staff. With participation you will receive a free Narcan kit (while
supplies last). To register click <goog_844371399>here

Fentanyl and xylazine test strips, and directions for their use, can be
found in the Student Health & Counseling Center’s Self-Care Station,
located in our lobby. Test strips can also be ordered on the OASAS website
<https://oasas.ny.gov/>.

Substance abuse treatment information can be found on the Student Health &
Counseling Center web page. New Yorkers can also find help by calling the
state’s toll-free, 24-hour, 7-day-a-week HOPEline at 1-877-8-HOPENY
(1-877-846-7369) or by texting HOPENY (short code 467369).

If you have any questions, or would like to make an appointment with one of
our counseling or medical providers, please reach out to the Student Health
& Counseling Center at healthcenter at platsburgh.edu or 518-564-2187. We are
open M-F, 8 AM - 4 PM.
