Dear Campus Community,

This morning, members of our campus and local community gathered at Hawkins
Pond for a ceremony marking the anniversary of September 11, 2001. We
honored the lives lost, remembered those in our Cardinal community
connected to that day, and reflected on the lessons of resilience and
service that continue to guide us.

I share below the statement issued this afternoon by Chancellor King and
the SUNY Board of Trustees in remembrance of this day.

*Statement from Chancellor King and SUNY Board of Trustees on the
Anniversary of September 11*



“In the days following the tragic September 11 attacks that killed
thousands of innocent people and shook the nation to its core, New York
State and the entire country came together in a remarkable show of strength
to set aside differences and unite to persevere against terrorism. We
remember today that feeling of unity, and recognize and honor the brave
first responders who sacrificed their lives and health on 9/11 and during
its aftermath.



“As students born in a post-9/11 world continue to attend college, it is
the duty of SUNY and other educational institutions to help them understand
the challenges the country faced in the aftermath of September 11, and
ensure they reflect upon the idea that the United States is a nation that
is strongest when we stand together.



“We must continue to ensure the nation, and future generations, always
remember this tragic day in American history.”
