Dear Campus Community,
As we prepare to embrace the 2025–2026 academic year, I am pleased to share
several exciting updates and invitations to engage with Diversity, Equity
and Inclusion (DEI) programming on our campus.
Black Solidarity Day Social Justice Teach-In: Save the Date for Monday,
November 3, 2025
Our fourth annual Black Solidarity Day Social Justice Teach-In will take
place on Monday, November 3, 2025. This year’s theme is: “Meeting the
Moment: Amplifying Our Voices and Efforts.”
Black Solidarity Day is an opportunity to explore the meaning of social
justice and civic engagement in a globally diverse society. As described in
past events, the day is intended to “highlight disparities, racial
injustices, societal inequities, and illuminate how Black voices are
integral to American life” and to our SUNY Plattsburgh community.
We invite everyone to submit proposals that reflect creative, collaborative
approaches to shared learning and reflection across our Plattsburgh and
Queensbury campuses.

This Healing Circle will be held outdoors in the special TRHT Adirondack
Chairs provided by a donor (weather permitting). More information is
forthcoming, and flyers will be posted in the digest and on Cardinal Link.
These gatherings offer a welcoming space for community connection, healing,
and reflection. If you would like to learn more or receive training to
co-facilitate a healing circle this year, please email us at
diversity at plattsburgh.edu.
Introducing the “Community & Conversation” Series: Beginning September 2025
This new monthly series is designed to deepen our DEI engagement by
bringing people together in informal settings outside our usual work and
learning spaces.
Each event will:
-
Be hosted by a different campus department or office
-
Include beverages and treats
-
Offer live video engagement for our online community
-
Be open to both students and employees
-
Include at least one fully virtual session during the academic year
Some confirmed hosts so far include:
-
Communication Studies
-
Strategic Communications and Marketing
-
Career Development Center
-
Student Financial Services
-
University Police
We welcome additional volunteers for host sites! DEI will subsidize the
cost of beverages and lead all promotion for hosts.
If your department is interested in hosting or getting involved with a DEI
event, please email us at: diversity at plattsburgh.edu
We look forward to an inspiring and inclusive year ahead and will continue
to share more updates soon.
Sincerely,
Allison Heard
