[Important Information for Employees] Campus Announcement: Appointment of Rob Boal as Director of Facilities

Good Morning,

I am pleased to announce that Rob Boal has been selected as the successful
candidate for the role of Director of Facilities at SUNY Plattsburgh. Rob
will officially begin in this role on September 26, 2024.

Rob has been serving as Interim Director of Facilities since April 2024.
During that time, he has demonstrated outstanding leadership and a
commitment to addressing key issues on our campus. Notably, Rob played a
critical role in responding to last year’s high-temperature hot water
failure, showcasing his ability to manage complex challenges under
pressure. He has also been instrumental in addressing years of deferred
maintenance, which he has taken on with an innovative and proactive
approach to improving campus safety and operations.

Rob brings a wealth of experience in facilities management, with a career
that includes high level leadership roles at the University of Vermont,
where he managed over 850,000 square feet of medical, office, and classroom
buildings. Rob’s technical expertise includes building automation, HVAC
systems, and energy conservation measures, which have resulted in both
operational efficiencies and cost savings.

At SUNY Plattsburgh, Rob has developed strong working relationships with
key campus departments such as Capital, Procurement, and ITS. His
collaborative approach to problem solving and his focus on team building
have been crucial in advancing the growth and maintenance of our facilities.

Rob’s current interim leadership of a 130-person unit, management of an $8
million operating budget, and his commitment to professional development
within his team, further reflect his dedication to excellence and his
capacity to perform well in this role.

In light of Rob’s permanent appointment, we will immediately launch a
search for the Assistant Director of Facilities. More details about this
search will be forthcoming.

as he continues to advance the important work of maintaining and improving
our campus facilities.
