[Important Information for Employees] The Death of J. Derek Allan

Dear Members of our Campus Community,

We were saddened to have learned of the passing of J. Derek Allan, who died
May 30, 2023 at the age of 93.

Mr. Allan, who was born in Elgin, Scotland, March 13, 1930, emigrated to
the United States with his wife, Helen, and their children in 1958,
settling in Plattsburgh where his work with the firm Sargent, Webster,
Crenshaw & Folley resulted in the development of the 1960 master plan for
South Burlington. He joined the SUNY Plattsburgh staff in 1963 as
facilities program coordinator as the college was beginning its
construction boom, which included a number of residence halls, Clinton
Dining Hall, Feinberg Library, Kehoe Administration Building and the Angell
College Center, among other buildings. He was named facilities director in
1978. One of his final large-scale projects was the renovations to Hawkins
Hall in the early 1990s. Mr. Allan retired in June 1995 after 32 years with
the college.
