Dear Cardinal Community,
We are seeking your assistance.
On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, our Interim Director of Undergraduate
Admissions, a current SUNY Plattsburgh BIPOC employee, received an
anonymous email that included allegations of racist comments and other
disparaging remarks about him in his new role on campus. These comments
were alleged to have come from another current SUNY Plattsburgh employee.
The purpose of this message is to inform you of what has occurred, share
with you the steps we have taken, and ask for your help as we continue to
actively pursue this incident.
Over the past two weeks, University Police, Human Resources and Information
Technology Services have investigated the matter to uncover information,
but because the email was sent anonymously and cannot be traced, the
investigation has yielded no results.
At this time, we are seeking any information that will help us better
understand the facts of this case, which has been reported to DIRECT as a
bias incident.
We ask that you contact Michelle Trombley in Human Resources at
518-564-5062 or ormboye001 at plattsburgh.edu if you have any details that may
inform this ongoing investigation. Please note that the university enforces
its non-retaliation policy

in response to any reported acts of retaliation against reporters or
witnesses.
We understand that situations like this are very upsetting to our entire
campus, and are particularly harmful to our BIPOC community.
The Office for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will offer space on Friday,
November 18, 2022, from 12-1 pm in the Alumni Conference Room for those
seeking support. Additionally, students may contact the Counseling Center,
at 518-564-2187 and/or healthcenter at plattsburgh.edu. Students may also wish
to use our new Student Assistance Program telehealth service to speak to
trained counselors who are available 24/7 at no additional cost. Please see
the “How to Access Services” Information attached to this email.
Employees in need of additional support are encouraged to reach out to
the Employee
Assistance Program

As a campus, we will always respond to all acts of discrimination and hate
speech. Events like Black Solidarity Day are only successful because we
choose to work and learn together to rid ourselves of bias, racism, and
other microaggressions and forms of discrimination. Let us build upon the
success of those efforts, and come together as a community every day, to
make this a campus that truly embraces and embodies diversity, equity and
inclusion.
It is our shared responsibility to do all we can to support one another,
create an equitable and inclusive campus culture, and serve as a positive
role model for our students.
Thank you.
