[Important Information for Employees] Homecoming Weekend Cancelled

Dear Friends,

Just a few weeks ago, we were looking forward to welcoming alumni back to
campus this fall for our first traditional, in-person Homecoming in two
years. However, with COVID-19 cases on the rise both nationally and
regionally, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's
Homecoming festivities, previously scheduled for Oct. 15 and 16.  Our
concern for the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, alumni,
and the surrounding community remains our top priority.



In lieu of Homecoming, we will host the following special events on Oct.
16, exclusively for the Class of 2020:



   -

   a modified graduation ceremony, as we were unable to host traditional
   commencement events in May and December 2020
   -

   a celebratory gathering for the Class of 2020
   -

   a tree dedication in honor of the Class of 2020 by Hawkins Pond.


I hope it will bring everyone some measure of joy to engage with this group
of returning 2020 alumni, since they were sent home at the beginning of the
pandemic most abruptly. Stringent safety measures will apply for this group
of alumni visitors.

Many programs across campus have independently hosted in-person alumni and
friend mini-reunions on campus (and downtown) during Homecoming Weekend.
This has been a wonderful Plattsburgh tradition much enjoyed by our
alumni.  However, we need your help to avoid "pop-up" reunions this fall.
No college sponsored alumni activities should be offered except those
provided for the Class of 2020.

We encourage you to honor the spirit of Homecoming by connecting virtually
with alumni whenever you are able. Your relationships with our alumni are
the foundation of our Proud Past and Strong Future.
