Dear Campus Community,

Each day, the college's custodial staff takes steps to protect all of us.
They work for the benefit of others and do so in a time of unprecedented
challenge and stress.

I am writing today to expressly recognize this work and to thank them. I
encourage each of you today to thank the college employees, too.

The custodial staff take measures to ensure your health and safety. Their
efforts are vital to our operations and are a service to students, faculty
and staff.

A total of 74 colleagues work here as cleaners, janitors and in supervisory
roles. Cleaners work independently or as part of a team cleaning and
disinfecting areas, polishing floors, washing windows, vacuuming, removing
trash and more. Janitors have added responsibilities that involve
responding to building problems, creating work orders for repairs and
restocking supply areas. Our supervisors ensure this is done and directed
well.

Earlier this month, the Student Association recognized this work and
expressed appreciation for the custodial staff. They encouraged all campus
organizations, faculty, staff and students to recognize these employees.
They also designated today -- Thursday, Oct. 14 -- as Custodial Staff
Appreciation Day.

I join with the SA in marking this day. None of us -- no student, professor
or professional -- could do our work, complete our studies, or teach others
-- without them.

Sincerely,

Alexander Enyedi
President
