Dear Campus Community,
As we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday's
national holiday, I invite you to join me in attending Plattsburgh's annual
celebration event.
Normally held at the Newman Center as a community gathering, this year's
event has been pre-recorded. You can view it at 1 p.m. on Monday locally on
Mountain Lake PBS and online at www.mountainlake.org.
This annual program was the first event I attended after moving here last
year, the day before I began serving as president. It was an uplifting,
hopeful program that drew inspiration and challenges for us all.
This year's program includes music from the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir,
speakers from across the area, the awarding of an annual scholarship and
more.
In my brief recorded remarks, I noted how Dr. King's voice continues to
inform us as communities, like our Plattsburgh community, strive toward
inclusivity and to ensure equitable outcomes for all.
Dr. King reminded us that “the ultimate measure of a man (or woman) is not
where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but where they
stand at times of challenge and controversy."
At this time, and as we work continually to be informed and guided as a
student-centered, equity-minded and trauma-informed campus, it is critical
to keep such leaders and legacies in the forefront.
I hope you can join me in attending this program.
Dr. Alex Enyedi
President
