Dear Colleagues,

I imagine that this is a busy week and there is a lot of information coming
your way, but I hope you will take a few minutes to review the critically
important Title IX
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/health-safety/title-ix/index.html>
content of this email. Specifically, you will find information and details
of how to report experiences of discrimination, harassment, and/or violence
and the college's current policies, reporting options and available
resources.

There is no single narrative - while not all people will harm others,
people of all gender identification or expression, race, ethnicity,
national origin, religion, creed, age, ability, sexual orientation,
economic class, and so on both harm others and are harmed. It is important
that we strive for an inclusive environment where all voices can be heard
and individuals feel empowered to seek support when they may need it.

Students are at the heart of our focus on campus and there may be times
when they come to you first after experiencing discrimination or violence.
The way in which they are received in that moment is so important, but
simultaneously may be intimidating for the person receiving the
information. Please know that you are not alone if you have concerns about
how to approach situations like this, but there are resources here to
support you to understand what the expectations are so that you do not
violate the safety of others and so that you are empowered to communicate
with others what your expectations are as an individual, as well as your
responsibilities as an employee.

Conversely, students or colleagues may come to you for support if they have
been accused of discrimination or violence. Resources are available for all
members of our campus - regardless of the circumstances. The college
utilizes fair and impartial processes that you may access here
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/health-safety/title-ix/title-ix-policies.html>
.

No matter the person’s position on campus (student, staff, faculty,
visitor, etc.) - the narrative often taught is precautions you can take not
to be harmed by others, rather than the responsibility we each have not to
cause harm. Each person on this campus has the right to be who they are
freely, without judgment, or without fear of harm. None of us should have
to navigate our surroundings worried about what you may have done to cause
someone else to harm you. Please remember this important piece whether you
are speaking to a group or an individual on this topic.

Students received a similar email earlier in the week; however, this
information is not just for our students, it is for you, if you find
yourself in a place of needing support. For information on how Title IX
Protects you, please visit here: How Title IX Protects You

Title IX Update

As communicated in the fall 2020 welcome email, New Title IX Regulations
went into effect on August 14th, 2020. If you want more information on
this, please review content
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/health-safety/title-ix/index.html>
on the website and/or reach out at Title.IX at plattsburgh.edu

Annual Sexual Harassment Training

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to complete the mandated
sexual harassment training. If you have not yet done so, regardless of your
position on campus, please do so by Februay 21st, 2021. This training is
critical in regards to ensuring we are not just following state guidelines,
but all employees are on the same page in regards to workplace boundaries,
expectations, and responsibilities.

Bi-Annual SUNY Climate Survey

Within the next couple of weeks, you will receive communication to
voluntarily participate in the bi-annual climate survey which looks to
assess knowledge of resources, as well as individual experiences and
experiences reported to you by students and/or colleagues involving sexual
harassment, sexual & interpersonal violence.
