[Important Information for Employees] Dr. Richard Miller Named Interim Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Dear Campus Community,

I am pleased to share news that Dr. Richard Miller, a veteran academic
leader and scholar, will serve as our interim vice president for diversity,
equity and inclusion beginning Monday, Dec. 20.

Dr. Miller is uniquely positioned to assist us as we launch a national
search in 2022 for our next vice president. His experience of more than 40
years has included time as an instructor, department chair, dean, and vice
president. He will help us build on the good work of Dr. Michelle Cromwell
and further develop next steps as we make several hires in the DEI division
and the search committee begins its work.

He most recently served as interim vice provost for diversity, equity and
inclusion at the University of San Diego. Prior to that he was in a similar
role at Benedict College in Columbia, S.C. At Western Kentucky University,
he was vice provost and the institution's inaugural chief diversity officer.

A native of Ithaca, N.Y., he holds a bachelor’s degree in health and
physical education from Ithaca College, a master’s degree in physical
education from Ithaca College, and a doctorate in physical education /
exercise physiology from Springfield College in Massachusetts.

He will join the campus in-person during the first week of spring semester
classes. I look forward to working with Dr. Miller and for him to
experience a warm welcome to our campus and our community of Cardinals.
