Dear Campus Community,
I had the wonderful opportunity this morning to host a welcome back to
campus for faculty and staff. It was a special time to begin our collective
focus for the upcoming semester, recognize and celebrate recent campus and
SUNY award recipients, and hear from other campus leaders.
*You can watch the program online here*
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/about/president-leadership/welcome.html>. I
encourage you to carve out a little time to view it when you're able.
I shared an appreciation for the nonstop effort that has taken place this
summer, all of which was motivated with our students and the health and
safety of this campus community in mind. As president over the past 18
months, I have observed and learned that this college has resiliency, it
has hope, it has tenacity and it has kindness. There is a powerful can-do
spirit that pervades this campus.
Across the campus we came together as a team in response to the pandemic –
but this has been tough and it has been draining. I would be remiss not to
acknowledge the daily challenges each of you has faced under conditions
that were constantly changing and continue to change – even this week with
the FDA approval of a vaccine.
Support for one another remains necessary. It is our interdependent work
that leads to so much success among our students.
One part of that work is our designation by the Association of American
Colleges and Universities as a Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation
campus center. We intend for our campus to be an active place for
conversation that can dismantle historical racial narratives and broaden
our recruitment and retention of a racially diverse student body, faculty
and staff. This will encompass curriculum and the full campus and wider
communities. We have the support of SUNY system administration in this as
we become the first college to advance on this designation.
As we begin classes Monday, please remember the indoor masking requirement
applies to all campus buildings regardless of vaccination status. All
students will also participate in pool testing the first week of classes.
These steps are taken as we continue our focus on the health and safety of
each of us.
I am so proud to be a part of this community I have come to treasure and
know you do as well.
My best for a great semester.
Dr. Alexander Enyedi
President
