Dear Campus Community,
The college recorded one new case today of a student testing positive for
COVID-19. The person was identified through pooled surveillance testing
results and is now isolating.
The most recent pooled surveillance testing for COVID-19 yielded no further
positive cases. However, participants in one of the pools are being
retested as a precaution because results were weak and indeterminate. The
tests were completed by SUNY Upstate Medical University from 1,496 student
samples.
Over the past 14 days, the college community has recorded 32 total cases.
Additionally, two students are in precautionary isolation having tested
negative with rapid tests but awaiting back-up PCR test results.
Those in isolation and quarantine are being released as they recover or
risk times expire. The college case dashboard, as well as details on
isolation, quarantine and related topics, are online at
*plattsburgh.edu/covid-19* <http://plattsburgh.edu/covid-19>. Quarantine
decisions by the health department via tracing are based on an assessment
of potential exposure and to help prevent possible viral spread.
We respect the privacy of students in isolation and quarantine and will
support them. If you are aware, please also respect their privacy.
A focus on prevention and the Cardinal Pledge, coupled with robust testing,
isolation and quarantine as warranted, are our keys to flattening the case
count. It takes all of us to succeed.
Pooled surveillance testing continues Tuesday and Wednesday. Please attend
if invited.
We continue to monitor our campus cases and capacity every day. We are also
working in concert with multiple public health officials and partners who
are supportive of our approaches.
Dr. Alexander Enyedi
President
