[Important Information for Employees] Retirement of Diane Merkel

The Office of the Provost invites the campus to wish Diane Merkel all the
best as she begins her retirement as of November 19, 2020.

Diane joined SUNY Plattsburgh as the Assistant Provost in January 2008.
Throughout her time here,  Diane has served the Provost's office in ways
that are too many to detail with extensive responsibilities around budget
oversight and faculty contractual and personnel matters.

Emeritus faculty member and former interim provost and dean, Dr. David
Hill, shared the following words:

"Diane was the perfect colleague for me, first when I was a dean and then
when I served as interim Provost. She is skilled and knowledgeable in both
budget and personnel functions, having worked in both areas previous to her
coming to Plattsburgh. In addition, Diane anticipated needs well. Not only
was she quick to respond to requests for information, she also was very
good at having data and recommendations at hand when needed even before
they were requested. For me her most outstanding qualities were her
kindness and steady demeanor.  Her work was consistently of the highest
quality and her interactions with others always professional. The college
is fortunate to have had her in its employ. I wish her well in retirement
and look forward to reminiscing with her about our days in the office."

Though I have only had the pleasure of working with Diane across several
months, I can echo each word of Dave Hill's praise.  The Provost's Office
will not be the same without her.  We are all wishing her a happy and
healthy retirement.
