It has been brought to our attention that there may be some inconsistencies
across campus regarding supervisor expectations of those employees working
remotely. Please remember that this is a challenging time for everyone,
with some facing obstacles that we may not even be aware of.
Daily Check-Ins: This should be a quick email or telephone call just to
confirm the status of the employee for the day. Are they working or
charging vacation/sick leave accruals for the day? Do they have everything
they need to do their job? Do they have any questions or concerns? It is
not intended to be an in-depth documentation of each task they completed
that day nor should it take an inordinate amount of time out of their
workday.
Weekly Work Logs: This is a summary of the work performed during the week
and should be submitted to their supervisor by the end of the day on Friday
or the following Monday. The expectation is that these logs should be
submitted by anyone working a completely remote schedule, or a hybrid
schedule in which the majority of the workweek is completed off-campus.
Employees working a hybrid schedule in which the majority of the workweek
is completed on-campus, do not have to submit them. The information
submitted into the Google form is collected by Human Resource Services.
The purpose of the weekly logs is to provide documentation that actual work
was completed remotely in the event of an audit.
An example of a weekly work log for a Benefits Assistant may be:
-Monitored/responded to emails
-Monitored NYBEAS for Workers Compensation accident reports
-Input health insurance changes into NYBEAS
-FMLA/Maternity Leave consultation with employee
-Mailed separation packets to adjuncts not returning
-Followed-up with employees regarding medical documentation, as needed
-Updated leave log
-Attended NYS Employee Benefit Division's Option Transfer webinar
-Attended Department Meeting via Zoom
Please remember that if an employee is placed under quarantine by the
Department of Health or if they test positive for COVID-19, this
information must be promptly sent to hrs at plattsburgh.edu as we are required
to provide this information to SUNY. Feel free to contact Human Resource
Services with any questions or concerns.
