We learned yesterday that Yokum will be unavailable for classes for as long
as the first three weeks of the semester. M&O is currently estimating that
full-building heating will be restored by mid-February, permitting regular
usage through the end of semester.
This affects classes from all three Schools. The Registrar is working to
shift classrooms to alternate buildings, and thanks to Jessica Lashway’s
fast evening work, 59 of 66 classes have been reassigned to spaces that are
appropriate in terms of capacity. Jess is working to do her best with the
remaining classes. Please be understanding of the Registrar’s office with
regards to reassignments, we are trying to be mindful of considerations
such as distance between classes and offices. A few students may be moved
between sections offered at the same time due to space limitations. We hope
to have all classes reassigned by Friday.
The Registrar will email affected faculty on new class locations, and will
email all affected students. We ask that follow-up regarding reassignments
be via your Dean. These new locations will also be posted in Banner and
Registrar will post hardcopies outside Yokum Hall entrances before the
first day of classes.
With regards to ITS and A&S personnel who have offices in Yokum, CIO Myers
and Dean Pearson will be following up in the coming days regarding possible
work from home / Zoom needs and to ascertain needs for alternative office
space such as for meeting with students during these three weeks.
Kindly note that Yokum Hall is safe and accessible throughout this time but
may be colder than typical. Limited hours for students in the warmer parts
of the day may be one solution departments might consider for brief student
visits such as office hours, but not for classes. Temporary heating has
been put into the building that should keep temperatures well above
freezing.
You are free to use offices as normal if you are comfortable doing so.
Personal space heaters should not be brought into the building or used due
to safety concerns.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
