Dear colleagues in Academic Affairs,

I hope you are having a productive start to the New Year. There is an
opening for one person from Academic Affairs on a new Campus Bathroom
Taskforce, which hopes to improve inclusion and equity in these facilities.
If you would like to be considered for the committee please reply to Sue
Bartlett sbart001 at plattsburgh.edu preferably by early next week. Additional
detail below from Kim Irland, who is heading this worthwhile task force. If
we have multiple volunteers from AA, I will work with Kim to select one
rep. Thank you. - Marcus

Below is an invitation requesting you assign someone from your division who
is interested in joining a new Campus Bathroom Task Force to commence in
January 2025.
This task force will likely need to meet three times in the spring semester
and hybrid attendance is available for convenience.

BACKGROUND: During the Spring 2024 semester a series of bathroom concerns
in Meyers were brought to my attention, including vandalism of gender
markers on bathroom doors and a student art creation that displayed
bathroom signage. These concerns led me as Title IX Coordinator to develop
a Bathroom Questionnaire in June 2024 to better understand the attitudes
and needs of our students and employees with regard to the inclusiveness of
our campus bathrooms. This survey received 151 responses (91 employees, 51
undergraduates, and 9 graduate students) related to campus bathrooms and
gleamed responses. Additionally, in June 2024, myself and another colleague
in DEI walked the campus to inventory the bathroom facilities which
informed an updated log of bathroom gender markers, user capacity, ADA
features, and other amenities like changing tables with which we shared and
discussed with Maintenance and Operations.

In September, I pulled together a small coalition of stakeholders,
including Rob Boal, Chris Chamars, Jennifer Curry, and myself. From this
discussion we all agreed that a task force would be a great way to keep the
momentum going around identifying solutions to some of the issues raised
from the bathroom questionnaire and bathroom inventory. Following that
meeting, we each brought this idea back to our respective Vice Presidents
and we now are prepared to move forward with creating a task force. Please
know that any suggestions and action items will follow the appropriate
protocol for review and consideration at Cabinet.

Recommended Task Force Membership Composition:

Kim Irland - Title IX and task force co-chair
Rob Boal - Maintenance and Operations and task force co-chair
