Colleagues,
It's Friday! Wishing you all a great weekend.
Here's one new question for today:
*Question:*
I've had several students over the last few weeks send me messages that
they will need to be absent because of quarantine. But in at least three
cases, I never receive any notification from student affairs or anyone
else. Is there a lag or communication breakdown that might explain this?
*Answer:*
Clinton County Health Department is responsible for all contact tracing.
When a student is tested at our Health Center and the results are positive,
or if they know they have been exposed to someone who is positive and the
student is *not* vaccinated, the Health Center immediately contacts student
affairs. Thus the notices that you receive from that office.
However, if Clinton County is the primary area learning about a positive
case or assessing the need to quarantine a student who has been exposed,
they do not necessarily loop back to the college. In these cases, you may
very well have a student contact you and share that they are quarantined,
but you will not hear from student affairs.
It would be ideal, I agree, if we had full communication back and forth
between the health department and our campus, but the volume of cases they
need to contact trace as well as limitations in staffing for them and for
us means that we aren't able to have a more seamless process.
Thank you!
