Hello Colleagues!

The fall 2023 semester has started and I’m thrilled to see the campus come
alive with the vibrancy that the students bring. As you fully engage with
your classes, please keep the following in mind:

   -

   Each course has been designed to help students reach specific learning
   outcomes that are noted on the Model Course Outline (MCO). Copies of
   approved MCOs are available in the Course and Program Outlines
   <https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1BlXxq4qkL1KmAetl8o0a9pkvldG0MMzB?usp=sharing>
   folder on the Academic Affairs shared drive.
   -

   The course outcomes from the MCO must be listed on the syllabus as
   should the Academic Honesty and Student Accomodations statements, in
   accordance with the Syllabi Policy
   <https://www.plattsburgh.edu/about/offices-divisions/academic-affairs/provost/policies-and-procedures/syllabirequirements.html>.
   Syllabi should be welcoming and clear and must be available to students
   within the first week of class.
   -

   Major class activities should be scheduled around common religious
   observances, while individual religious observances may need additional
   accommodation (see the 2023 Interfaith Calendar
   <https://www.diversityresources.com/interfaith-calendar-2023/> and 2024
   Interfaith Calendar
   <https://www.diversityresources.com/interfaith-calendar-2024/> for a
   list of some observances). Students who are unable to attend classes during
   observance of religious holidays are protected by New York State Education
   Law Section 224-a and must be excused (see our policy
   <https://catalog.plattsburgh.edu/content.php?catoid=13&navoid=1680#education-law-absence-due-to-religious-beliefs>
   for details). While students remain responsible for course material,
   assignments, and examinations, no penalty may be applied due to the
   absence.
   -

   Cardinal Star
   <https://plattsburgh.starfishsolutions.com/starfish-ops/session/casLogin.html>
   is a valuable tool to help promote student success. Start by setting up
   your office hours so students can make appointments with you.
Access the Cardinal
   Star User Guides

   for help or email CardinalStar at plattsburgh.edu with questions.

Thank you in advance for all you do to make our students feel welcome and
valued. Looking forward to a great year!
