Hello colleagues,
I hope this first week back to the fall semester has been a good one for
you all. There is one new question for me to answer.
*Question:*
What evidence does a student have to produce in order to receive a
religious exemption? What evidence is required for a medical exemption?
*Answer:*
Requests for medical exemptions require documentation from a health care
provider of the student's condition. Requests for religious exemptions
begin with a student's attestation of why their religious beliefs prohibit
vaccination; after submission, there is a meeting with each student (held
by Student Services professionals) to assess the request. We have been
advised by SUNY Counsel on how to conduct these meetings, and the
expectation is that we will be rigorous in our assessment of each request.
Simply stating "I don't believe in vaccinations" is not an acceptable
attestation.
Wishing you all a great weekend,
Anne
