**SENT ON BEHALF OF THE THE FACT2 COUNCIL**
Dear SUNY Faculty,
The SUNY FACT2 Task Group on Examining Pedagogy and Learning in Online
Domains (ExPLOD), SUNY Center for Professional Development, and the SUNY
Office of the Provost are interested in learning more about faculty
perception and experience with online and remote teaching environments. As
a teaching faculty at your campus, we are requesting your help to
participate in a short survey.
ExPLOD has created a survey to gather information from teaching faculty
(e.g., tenure track, non-tenure track, clinical, and adjunct faculty)
across SUNY. The goal of this survey is to learn more about faculty’s
perceptions of their ability to confidently teach online across SUNY. This
survey will be administered through SUNY System Administration’s survey
tool and will inform future recommendations of the Task Group to FACT2 and
the SUNY Provost.
The survey primarily consists of closed-ended questions, but there are also
some open-ended follow up questions that faculty will be asked at the end.
Questions are not course or campus specific. Rather, we are asking faculty
to reflect on their overall experiences and perceptions teaching online
program pre- and post-Spring 2020. We believe that the faculty responses
from this survey will be helpful to SUNY’s understanding of online
faculty’s experiences and confidence teaching online.
The survey has been approved by the system-wide IRB, and all faculty
responses will be confidential. We plan to share the aggregated data with
the ExPLOD Task Group members, the SUNY Office of the Provost, and with the
rest of the SUNY community as appropriate. Survey analysis may also be
used to develop articles about faculty perception of online learning, in
general.
Participation is completely voluntary and will not impact the faculty role
and/or responsibilities through SUNY. You must be 18 years of age and
older to complete this survey. The risks are no more than those experienced
in typical daily life, and there is no compensation for participating. You
can exit the survey at any time, for any reason. The survey is anonymous,
meaning you will not be asked any identifiable information, such your name,
phone number or address. By completing the survey, you agree to be part of
the study as stated above, and that your anonymous responses can be used as
part of the aggregated dataset.
The survey will be open January 26 to February 14, 2021, and it should take
you no more than 20 minutes to complete. If you have any questions or
concerns, you can directly email the ExPLOD Task Group’s co-chair and
principal investigator Dr. Audeliz (Audi) Matias at audeliz.matias at esc.edu or
the Human Research Ethics Board of SUNY New Paltz at
hrebsecretary at newpaltz.edu.
