[Teaching-Faculty] Question Update for Faculty re: Fall 2021 re-start

Colleagues,

My answers to questions that have come in today:

Question: A faculty member has asked about taking students outside and
whether a mask will still be required when outside.

Answer: Based on our posted policy from the college homepage:

"All employees, students, and visitors are required to have a mask or face
covering readily available on their person . . . when on campus outdoors
and to put on their masks or face covering when it is NOT feasible to
maintain physical/social distancing measures (i.e., at least six feet of
separation between others)."

Question: Will we have unvaccinated students on campus?

Yes.  Until we have FDA approval on any of the vaccines, we cannot force
students (or any employees) to vaccinate.  Students may also apply for
exemption from vaccinating, either due to medical conditions or religion.
In either case, if students have an approved exemption, they will be
responsible for masking at all times while inside and keeping 6 feet of
distance from others.

Question: Did I understand it well that even though the classrooms are set
up to allow for 3ft distancing, students should be seated as to follow the
6ft social distancing rule?

No.  Only unvaccinated students are obligated to be masked and socially
distanced (6 feet apart from others) while in the classroom.  A large
percentage of our students (increasing every day as we collect the data)
are vaccinated, and they simply need to be masked, as is the case with
faculty members who are vaccinated and teaching f2f.
