Greetings from Plattsburgh. I hope this finds you and those you care about
doing well.

We are still experiencing some warm days in Plattsburgh, but there's no
question that Fall is beginning to knock on our door. With it, your
students are working their way through this semester. New students are
starting to settle into their routines and beginning to make their mark on
our campus. Returning students are hitting their stride as well as they
assume leadership roles, some for the first time, and mentor our
newest community members.

I wanted to take this opportunity to share some thoughts and events with
you.

*Making connections and getting involved:*

· *Involvement Fair: *Your student's involvement is a strong indicator of
how their experience is going and can be an indicator for success.
Encourage them to find connections on campus and get involved at an
appropriate level with something that matters to them. To facilitate this,
we have our second Involvement Fair of the semester scheduled for this
Friday, September 8 from 11am-2pm in the Amite Plaza outside the College
Center. Nearly all our Clubs & Organizations will be in attendance for
this event. Please encourage your students to attend.

· *Study Abroad Fair*: Students considering a Study Abroad experience are
welcome to join us on Wednesday, October 4th, from 11am - 2pm, in the
second-floor lobby of the Angell College Center. Even if it's something
your student is thinking they may want to do later in their time at
Plattsburgh, this is a great chance for them to get the information they
may need to decide if it's something they are interested in or to get
information for their future planning. If your student is thinking of a
Study Abroad experience for the Spring 2024 semester, the deadline for
applying for these programs is October 1. For more information, please
visit the Study Abroad and Exchanges website
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/academics/study-abroad-exchanges/index.html>,
or drop them an email at geo at plattsburgh.edu.

· *Getting Connected*: A reminder to help us and your students by
encouraging your student to reach out to and meet their Academic Advisor,
to actively find other people on campus that they are comfortable visiting
when they need help or guidance. Having a solid connection can be pivotal
to them this semester and beyond. Some of your students have already
dropped in to see me and others but remind them that we are here to help
them be successful.

*Family Involvement:*

· *How can you help? * Encourage and provide a positive message from home
whenever possible. As I've shared with many of you over the years, your
students do listen to you and are yearning for your encouragement. Being a
college student in today's world is not always easy. Help them as best you
can and encourage them to come and see us so that we can be their support
while they are with us. First year families, check out our First Six Weeks
page
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/first-year-student-programs/your-first-6-weeks.html>
to
find a week by week recipe for success for your students. We are working
on these things with them in the programs, events and conversations we are
having.

· *Family Weekend*: Please consider joining us in Plattsburgh for Family
Weekend <https://www.plattsburgh.edu/parents-families/family-weekend.html>,
9/22- 9/24, Your students will be excited to see you. Our Family Weekend
page has some ideas for each day, some we’ve planned and others that are
happening in town. You’ll find sporting events, community events, and our
University planned events. I hope to reconnect with many of you over the
weekend.

All of us at the University are working to provide your students with the
tools they'll need to be successful. Each of your students are unique and
special in their own way. I'm enjoying working with them and getting to
know them. I hope to see many of you on campus Family Weekend. Please
travel safely.
