NYS Assembly and Senate Internship Programs

Juniors and Seniors are invited to apply for a semester-long
internship with the NYS Assembly or Senate for Spring, 2027. These
internships are generally in the office of an Assemblymember or State
Senator, and in addition to earning 15 credits include an $8800 stipend. As
the campus liaison officer for both programs, I am here to answer questions
and help you complete your application to both. Here is some basic
information (also found on Handshake) about both programs.

NY State Assembly Session Internship

Applications are now being accepted for the NY State Assembly Session
Internship program. These internships place up to 150 undergraduate
students in an assembly members' office for the Spring 2027 session (Jan.
11 to May 5) and also include an academic course taught by a
Professor-in-Residence, discussion groups, and completion of a research
paper. Interns will be paid an $8800 stipend and can earn a full semester
of academic credit (15 credits). Applicants can be in any major, but must
be a junior or senior to apply for this internship program. Applicants
should possess emotional maturity, professional awareness, and be highly
motivated to succeed as well as demonstrate academic ability and
intellectual curiosity.

concise academic writing sample that demonstrates your research and
communication skills, and two letters of recommendation from individuals

NY State Senate Undergraduate Legislative Session Assistants Program

Applications are now being accepted for the NY State Senate Undergraduate
Legislative Session Assistants Program. Approximately 30 undergraduate
students will be placed in a state senator's office for the Spring 2027
session (mid-January to late-April) and will attend a weekly seminar
series. Interns will be paid an $8800 stipend and can earn a full semester
of academic credit (15 credits). Applicants can be in any major, but must
normally be a junior or senior to apply for this internship program
(exceptional sophomores are occasionally selected).

one-page resume, writing samples (an essay and two memoranda, see the

three letters of reference from individuals who have direct experience with
your academic abilities and professional aptitude sent directly to Dr. Lake.
