*Storms under water: Wind-driven impacts on deep lake thermal dynamics and
vertical distribution of Lake Champlain biota.*
Lake Champlain is a large, deep, freshwater lake that experiences summer
stratification limiting interactions between surface and deep waters.
Storms cause rapid vertical temperature changes in the water column that
alter habitat conditions which may potentially influence the distribution,
behavior, or abundance of aquatic organisms with specific thermal
preferences. We compiled ten years of vertical temperature data collected
by a buoy deployed in the main lake to classify storms into five severity
levels and compared these events with plankton samples collected during
storms.
*Friday May 15,** 11:00**pm. *
*Hudson 106*
*Reception prior to the talk at 10:30*
