[MUSIC/GOSPEL] Common Roots 2026

The Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir (PSGC) will be holding their annual
Common Roots event on Saturday, March 7 beginning at 3 p.m. at the St.
Mark’s Episcopal Church in Malone, N.Y., with a free gospel music workshop
from 12pm to 1:15pm.  No experience needed.  The workshop will include the
historical importance of gospel music as well as various aspects of vocal
gospel singing such as harmony, rhythm, style and technique.

The PSGC actively performs on campus, in the community, and throughout the
region, averaging 25 appearances each year. The choir sings at a variety of
settings including colleges, campus events, K-12 schools, churches,
memorial services, weddings, and other community events. In the past years,
it has performed in Burlington, Albany, New York City, Boston, Washington
D.C., Little Rock/Stuttgart, Chicago, Montreal, Toronto, Tokyo, and St.
Maarten/St. Martin. Additionally, the choir has collaborated with trumpeter
Ray Vega, gospel guru Darius Brooks, and clinicians such as Dr. Raymond
Wise, Dr. Anthony Leach, and Ron Rucker of Japan among many others, and has
appeared on several TV shows including the WORD Network and Mountain Lake
PBS. The choir has shared the stage with Lyle Lovett, Sheila Ray Charles,
Myra Flynn and The Kingdom Choir from London.

Common Roots will take place at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 34 Elm
Street, Malone, N.Y. beginning at 3 p.m. Admission for the event will be in
the form of a non-perishable item to support the Baptist Church Food
Pantry. This event will be co-sponsored by the SUNY Plattsburgh Department
of Music, the Student Association, the Office of Diversity, Equity and
Inclusion, and Red Roof Plus+.
