Dear Students,
Are you looking for a way to bridge the gap between classroom theory and
hands-on practice this summer?
The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Anthropology is excited to announce two
full-time undergraduate summer research positions for an upcoming project:
The Industrialization of the US and UK.
About the Project:
The Industrial Revolution profoundly reshaped global manufacturing,
urbanization, and climate. However, our understanding of how these shifts
impacted human health remains limited. This unique research project aims to
investigate mortality and morbidity on a large scale by interweaving data
from human skeletal remains with documentary evidence. We will explore the
lived experiences and disease risk factors of individuals across various
spatial and chronological frameworks.
We are seeking candidates for two distinct roles:
1) Undergraduate Demography Researcher: Focuses on integrating
demographic records, establishing spatial patterns of health via GIS tools,
and investigating the impact of public health measures.
2) Undergraduate Bioarchaeology Researcher: Focuses on integrating
bioarchaeological data, developing skeletal research experience, and
comparing health patterns from pre-industrial to industrial eras.
Position Highlights
Dates: June 1, 2026 – August 31, 2026
Pay: $16/hr (35 hours/week)
Perks: Gain direct research experience and qualify for paid trips to
National and International Conferences in Years 2 and 3 of the project.
Who Should Apply?
We are looking for current undergraduates in good standing who possess:
Digital Fluency: Comfort with Excel, Google Workspace, and data
organization.
Analytical Curiosity: A passion for discovery and hands-on
faculty-guided research.
Collaborative Spirit: Strong communication skills and a proactive
approach to team deadlines.
How to Apply
The application deadline is May 1, 2026.
