If you have a desire to do good and make a difference, you can get hands-on
experience and contribute to your community through paid public service.
Students selected for the Empire State Service Corps are matched with a
local non-profit or educational organization where they will complete 300
hours of paid public service at $16 per hour over the course of the 2026-27
academic year (about 10 hours per week). In addition, students who are U.S.
citizens will also be enrolled in the AmeriCorps program and receive an
additional $1,400 in educational awards at the end of the year. Past
Service Corps sites have included on-campus sites (Cardinal Cupboard,
Thrift Stop, Child Care Center, Title IX, etc.), as well as off-campus
sites (Momot Elementary, Ted K. Center, Salvation Army, North Country
Co-Op, Adult Day Health Center, United Way, Champlain Area Trails, St.
Joseph's Outreach Center, JCEO Head Start and more). For more information
or to apply, visit https://www.suny.edu/student-experience/essc/ or contact
Allison Swick-Duttine, Director of Student Leadership, at
swickan at plattsburgh.edu. Priority deadline for the 2026-27 cohort is
Friday, April 17.
