*The Institute for Ethics in Public Life invites you to join us for
"Conversations on the Constitution: Article III and the Judicial branch",
in person or on Zoom.*
The Constitution is the founding document of US democracy, yet most of us
have probably not read it or thought much about what it says or why.
Understanding how our government was supposed to function, and why the
founders set it up that way is particularly important in the current era
due to the battles over government powers playing out in the courts and
society.
For the third of the "conversations on the Constitution" hosted at the
Institute this year we will be discussing Article III
<https://www.google.com/url?q=https://constitution.congress.gov/constitution/article-3/&sa=D&source=calendar&ust=1763564771962982&usg=AOvVaw3ESqomJgPHZtNKWXTBwMQq>.
Article III focuses on the Judicial branch, and specifies that a "supreme
Court" be created as well as whatever other courts as Congress sees fit to
create. We will also discuss how the founders understood the role of the
Judicial Branch, drawing upon contemporary documents such as *Federalist 78*

and *Federalist 82*. In addition, we'll discuss how the powers of the
judiciary have evolved over time, particularly in recent years.
