While September is National Preparedness Month, we should focus on
preparedness all year long! Emergencies can happen anytime, so it’s
important to stay vigilant and ensure you’re ready whenever they strike.

Be sure to check your emergency kit(s) regularly and replace any items that
may expire. Try to assemble your emergency kit(s) in small steps to help
offset costs. Think about the dual uses of kit items, i.e., a poncho can be
used for shelter or serve as an emergency marker.

Once you've prepared yourself and your family by assembling a kit, making a
plan, and staying informed, it’s time to think bigger. How can you help
your community prepare for emergencies, too?

Here’s How You Can Get Involved:

   - Volunteer with local organizations that focus on disaster preparedness
   and response.
   - Get trained in life-saving skills like CPR and Basic First Aid with
   the American Red Cross <https://www.redcross.org/>.
   - Find volunteer opportunities through Voluntary Organizations Active in
   Disaster <https://www.nvoad.org/>.
   - Join the Medical Reserve Corps
   <https://aspr.hhs.gov/MRC/Pages/index.aspx>, providing crucial support
   during public health emergencies.
   - Support your local fire department by volunteering.

Being prepared for disasters is a shared responsibility. It requires the
whole community to work together to effectively prepare for, respond to,
and recover from disasters and other emergencies.
