Dear Campus Community,

Are you ready for emergencies? September is National Emergency Preparedness
Month, and it’s the perfect time to take action. Preparing for the
unexpected can be simple—just follow these three steps:

   1. Build an emergency supply kit.
   2. Create a personalized emergency plan.
   3. Stay informed about potential risks in your area.

Planning requires a bit more thought for individuals with special needs or
medical conditions. Do you or a family member rely on medical devices,
medications, or mobility aids? Now’s the time to think ahead. Here’s how to
ensure everyone is covered:

   - *Tailor your emergency kit:* Include essential items like extra
oxygen, hearing aid batteries, prescription medications, eyeglasses, or
   mobility aids.
   - *Plan your escape route:* If you require special transportation or
assistance during evacuation, make those arrangements in advance.
   - *Form a support network: *Friends, neighbors, and coworkers can be
crucial in an emergency—reach out to build your team.
   - *Backup medical resources:* Have a backup plan for life-sustaining
treatments and equipment. Consider storing extra equipment at your
   evacuation site.
   - *Register for local assistance:* Check your community for programs
designed to support individuals with special needs during emergencies.

Stay safe and be prepared!
