Preparing your Pets for an Emergency

Campus Community,

During an emergency, your priority is safeguarding yourself and your loved
ones—but have you considered your pets? It's equally important to plan for
their safety. Here’s how to make sure your furry (or feathered!) companions
are ready when disaster strikes:

Start with these simple steps:


   -

   Identify Pet-Friendly Shelters: Make a list of shelters and pet-friendly
   hotels in case you need to evacuate.
   -

   Assemble a Pet Emergency Kit: Include essentials like food, water,
   medications, a leash, carrier, toys, and important documents (vet records,
   insurance, and a photo of your pet).
   -

   ID and Microchip: Make sure your pet’s ID tags are current and securely
   fastened to their collar. Microchipping adds an extra layer of protection.
   -

   Create a Backup Plan: Arrange with a neighbor or friend to care for your
   pets if you can’t get home in an emergency.
