The Student Health & Counseling Center recognizes that there are Cardinals
who are impacted by the unprecedented opioid and overdose epidemic in our
country. We also recognize the growing danger of fentanyl and xylazine in
drugs such as cocaine, MDMA/ecstasy/Molly and counterfeit pills.

Narcan can reverse the effects of a drug overdose from fentanyl, heroin and
prescription opioids, and has saved countless lives. The Alliance for
Positive Health and the Student Health and Counseling Center are sponsoring
a free Narcan Training Class on November 8th from 12 to 1 pm. at the
Cardinal Lounge at the ACC. This training is open to students, faculty and
staff. With participation you will receive a free Narcan kit (while
supplies last). To register click here <https://forms.gle/kMWqjdXcEECggSos7> or
scan the QR code below.

Free Narcan (also called naloxone) can be ordered through a new portal
<https://oasas.ny.gov/> on the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Support
(OASAS) website; naloxone is also available without a prescription from
retail pharmacies. If you suspect someone has overdosed, call 911
immediately and then administer naloxone. The NYS DOH and SUNY have
produced a video on how to administer nasal naloxone: watch it here
<https://vimeo.com/847333696/f1a857611c?share=copy>.

Fentanyl and xylazine test strips, and directions for their use, can be
found in the Student Health & Counseling Center’s Self-Care Station,
located in our lobby. Test strips can also be ordered on the OASAS website.

Substance abuse treatment information can be found on the Student Health &
Counseling Center web page. New Yorkers can also find help by calling the
state’s toll-free, 24-hour, 7-day-a-week HOPEline at 1-877-8-HOPENY
(1-877-846-7369) or by texting HOPENY (short code 467369).

If you have any questions, or would like to make an appointment with one of
our counseling or medical providers, please reach out to the Student Health
& Counseling Center at healthcenter at platsburgh.edu or 518-564-2187. We are
open M-F, 8 AM - 4 PM.
